Emi Fujisawa is a textile artist, designer and maker based in England and Japan.
While working with her art in England she realised that she felt strongly identified with some traditional Japanese philosophies.
The philosophy that especially influences her is ‘Wabi-Sabi’, which is a worldview centred on the acceptance of transience and finding beauty in imperfection. Emi likes to observe the effects that time and the elements of nature have on objects, giving them an imperfect beauty.
Emi also takes great interest in the study of traditional textiles, techniques and materials from around the globe - taking inspiration from Confucius words : ‘We can learn new things from the past’.
She loves to explore different countries and find traditional materials, techniques and ideas. She has developed her own style to express her art which is based in a Japanese identity with European influences.
Her Japanese identity clearly radiates in her words :
‘I am very thankful everyday for the environment around me and for those close to me’.
